So what is never knows best...? It is what Mamimi, from FLCL, has written on her cigarettes. And now, I co-opted it for this stupid blog.

Vishing... a pretty cheesy name, but a pretty scary scam too.

Kinda pertinent to me because I just calls from Citibank over the past couple of days over new credit cards I applied for (yay? another app-o-rama), and I gave out my social security number out to one of them for "verification purposes"... I don't really feel like I got scammed because they all were asking about stuff I was aware about, though reading the article makes me kinda weary of getting those sorts of calls.

Another data point, was that my parents got a voicemail (live person) claiming to be from Verizon, and they needed to call back to verify the account status. When my mom asked me about it, I told her not to call back. It was a shady callback number, but if it was a 800 number, I might have thought differently. And since there wasn't any further communication from Verizion, I assume that was a scam.

Like they did in the article, if someone "official" sounding calls me asking for my personal info, more often than not I would give it out.
