So what is never knows best...? It is what Mamimi, from FLCL, has written on her cigarettes. And now, I co-opted it for this stupid blog.

Two More Years [Bloc Party]
Other thing I wanted to remember from today, was that I fubar'd my computer while trying to get a keygen for Nero Burning ROM. That'll teach me to try and be a pirate. Arrr....
For some reason, I was extra trusting of that keygen, too? Anyways it disabled my firewall, and was running a somewhat scary looking fake spyware cleaner, and Windows was complaining that I was getting screwed with by malware. So off goes the internet to prevent my from losing all my financial info/passwords/whatever else it would try to grab from me, and out come the Windows XP CDs to do a fresh install (it's been about 40 hours since I last reinstalled Windows).
So I reinstall my computer with the CD I've been using for the past 5 or so years, and like it did when I tried 40 hours ago, it complained that my CD key had been used too much. Well ya, this CD key is probably spread across 5 or so computers at this point, but that hasn't prevented me from having it work on this computer before nor Amy's. Apprently, this reinstall (and the previous) didn't fall into the period where they "forget" about my PCs configuration and let you start out fresh again. To get around the problem 39 hours ago, I called into the phone support line and went through a somewhat brisk process of repeating a 42 digit number about 4 times and received a 42 digit number that let me activate my computer properly. I tried the 42 digit number with this install and didn't work, meh... not unexpected, but still a pain.
Arrr... that'll teach me to be a pirate. So I go to eat dinner with Amy (at Crepevine) and grap her Windows XP Home CD that she got with her laptop, and install that on my computer with the serial number that stuck on the lower corner of my computer case (I had to use a flashlight to distinguish the Qs from Os). And am now merrily humming along.
Oh and burnatonce seems like it will be a servicable replacement for CD burning purposes for me. Freeware and based off of open source tools, so it should be relatively safe.
