Last night after being woken up at 3 in the morning to handle an oncall issue, and not being to fall asleep after it was resolved, I was struck by the fact that if the oncall schedule proceeds as it has, I'll be spending 2 months a year as the primary and 2 months a year as the secondary. A third of the year is about as much time if not more than the amount of time I'll spend sleeping during the year. Not that being oncall and sleeping are mutually exclusive, but it still made me apprehensive enough to not be able to fall asleep right away.
