Pom Poko [Isao Takahata]

Just saw this yesterday at the Pacific Film Archive as part of its Ghibli series. Definitely one of the weirdest films I have ever seen, definitely the weirdest environmentalist film I have ever seen. I think I was still smiling/laughing for 30 minutes after we finished watching it just trying to collect some thoughts about it. I thought of racoons dancing, and racoons fighting, and racoons using their balls as weapons, and then I can't help but smile.

Porco Rosso, which was shown before, was quite very good. I liked it a lot better than Pom Poko, but Pom Poko leaves such a distinct impression.
